This has been an interesting year. Partly because we planned it that way and partly because God’s plans are better than my own. We sold a house, moved everything we owned into storage, lived in a RV park for a week, bought a house, and moved our things again. Some things were moved immediately and the others have slowly made their way over from 4 storage units over the past seven months. All this was going on while normal life still happened- Cub Scouts, soccer, work, church events, summer vacation, summer camp, school starting, Emerson starting ballet… you get the idea. One thing that didn’t fit into the mix was my wedding schedule- the 8-10 weekends a year I devote to capturing someone’s special day, relishing in the sweet embraces, family dynamics and memorable moments. As a result, it’s been a year of trying to reclaim my pulse on family life- taking Emerson to ballet, actually getting to see Jackson’s soccer games, getting outside my box when it comes to serving, and taking advantage of free weekends to finally buy our dream camper and go camping whenever possible.
Despite the break, I haven’t given up on my craft completely. I reserved three weekends for two very dear friends and my brother. Three weddings to keep me sharp but also to share in special times with those most dear. The first was my friend Matt’s wedding and the second was my friend Christii’s wedding. Christii’s wedding was one of those days where I wouldn’t have dreamed of being anywhere else. We were friends from day one, sharing easy conversations and new experiences. We helped her adapt to a new life in Alabama and she helped Jackson find his love for Mario Kart. I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her wedding and I’m so happy that she found love and a future with Kenny.
